From Bakery Life to British Isles: A Journey of Career Change, Travel, and New Beginnings
The air is thick with anticipation, and a profound sense of transition hangs heavy in the next 24 hours. It’s a moment charged with both nostalgia and the exhilarating promise of what lies ahead, marking the culmination of one significant chapter and the exciting dawn of another.
Tomorrow officially marks my final day working at the beloved bakery. What began last November as a modest undertaking, baking a mere 10 dozen cupcakes daily, rapidly escalated into a remarkable feat of producing over 65 dozen in my final week. This journey has been an intensive masterclass in culinary arts, an experience demanding relentless hard work, unwavering precision, and incredible resilience. I’ve absorbed an immense amount of knowledge in the process, honing skills far beyond just baking. The tangible evidence of this dedication isn’t just in the delicious treats, but also in the more than a couple of scars I’ve collected along the way – a badge of honor for the passion poured into every batch. I’m still trying to mentally block out the memory of that day my finger became intimately acquainted with a particularly sharp pastry tip, a true occupational hazard!
While saying goodbye to the daily rhythm of the bakery feels genuinely bittersweet, a deep-seated excitement for change is undeniably taking root. The exact shape and form of what comes next are still nebulous, a beautiful blank canvas waiting to be painted. However, I am absolutely committed to sharing more details and revelations with you all in the coming weeks as my path clarifies. For the immediate future, my primary focus is to simply unwind, recharge, and allow myself the luxury of relaxation in some truly breathtaking surroundings. My destination, you ask? A captivating journey through:
SCOTLAND & ENGLAND: A GRAND BRITISH ADVENTURE
Indeed, I am embarking on an incredible two-week excursion across the Atlantic, an eagerly anticipated escape to the British Isles. This adventure begins with a week-long stay in vibrant Glasgow, Scotland, where I will be visiting my parents. For those new to the blog, they relocated there a few months ago, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to explore their new home city and catch up. Glasgow, a city renowned for its rich history, stunning Victorian architecture, and thriving arts scene, promises to be an invigorating start to the trip. I anticipate soaking in the local culture, perhaps visiting some of its famous museums and galleries, and certainly enjoying some authentic Scottish hospitality.
Following my time in Scotland, a picturesque 12-hour train ride will carry me south, traversing the diverse landscapes of Great Britain, down to the idyllic shores of Cornwall, England. This train journey itself is an experience I’m looking forward to – a chance to watch the scenery transform from rugged Scottish highlands (or lowlands near Glasgow) to the gentle, rolling hills and eventually the dramatic coastline of England. Upon arrival in Cornwall, I’ll be staying with my beloved grandmother, whose charming house boasts an absolutely spectacular panoramic vista that I can’t wait to wake up to every morning. This view, which you can glimpse below, is truly a sight to behold and has been a source of countless fond memories.
The beauty is truly captivating, isn’t it? Cornwall offers an unparalleled blend of dramatic cliffs, golden sands, and charming fishing villages, each with its unique character and story.
These vistas are exactly what I need to clear my head and find inspiration for the next chapter. The fresh sea air and serene environment are the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of a busy bakery kitchen.
Culinary Delights and Coastal Comforts in Cornwall
Now, don’t let the stunning coastal imagery fool you into thinking I’ll be braving the waves – that water, while beautiful, is notoriously freezing! You are far more likely to find me comfortably ensconced inside one of the quaint local tea shops nestled in the village. My agenda there will involve sipping on wonderfully frothy cappuccinos and indulging in delicious Cornish pasties – a true local delicacy. These savory, hand-held pies filled with meat and vegetables are an essential part of the Cornish culinary experience, steeped in history and tradition. Or, perhaps, I’ll be delighting in a classic jelly donut, a simple yet perfect treat to accompany a warm brew and good company.
These moments of quiet indulgence in charming tea shops are precisely the kind of restorative experiences I’m craving. Beyond the iconic pasties, I’m eager to explore other local Cornish delicacies and immerse myself in the relaxed pace of coastal village life. From leisurely strolls along the dramatic coastal paths to discovering hidden coves and ancient fishing harbors, every day promises new adventures and opportunities for relaxation. The blend of rich history, stunning natural beauty, and warm local culture makes Cornwall an ideal destination for reflection and rejuvenation.
Anticipation and Future Plans: What’s Next for the Blog?
Given the nature of this trip – a genuine break from routine and a dive into new experiences – I’m not entirely sure how frequently I’ll have the chance to check in or update the blog during these two weeks. My priority will be to live in the moment, absorb every detail, and truly disconnect. However, rest assured, I will be back soon enough, brimming with fresh perspectives, fascinating anecdotes, and an abundance of exciting content. You can expect a detailed recap of my adventures, insights into my evolving career plans, and undoubtedly, a plethora of inspiring new recipes, perhaps even some influenced by the British culinary landscape!
And of course, I’ll be sharing a truly massive collection of photographs from my journey! These images will hopefully transport you directly to the charming streets of Glasgow, the majestic train routes, and the breathtaking coastal vistas of Cornwall, allowing you to experience a slice of my British adventure.
The Journey Begins (Take Two!)
As I prepare for departure, here’s hoping that tomorrow’s 12+ hour journey unfolds swiftly and without a hitch! The excitement is palpable, despite a slight hiccup already encountered.
(Edited to Add: Well, my initial flight plan did not go as quickly or smoothly as hoped! In fact, it was unceremoniously cancelled, leading to a scramble of rebooking. A true test of patience before the adventure even properly began! However, my identical flight plan for TOMORROW has been confirmed and looks promising. It seems my British adventure is simply taking a scenic detour right at the start. Fingers crossed for a smoother departure this time, and I can’t wait to share all the details of this incredible journey with you soon!)
