Japan Adventures & Weekly Delights: Travel Prep, Sourdough, and Favorite Finds

The moment we’ve been eagerly anticipating has finally arrived! This afternoon, we are embarking on an incredible journey to Japan, and we won’t be back until next weekend. My excitement for this trip is truly boundless. While my main intention is to disconnect and fully immerse myself in the experience, I will occasionally be sharing glimpses of our adventures on Instagram and Instagram Stories. If you’re keen to follow along with our real-time discoveries and see the beauty of Japan through our eyes, that’s where you can find us!
Despite my travels, this blog space won’t fall silent. I’ve meticulously prepared a few new blog posts to go live while I’m away, ensuring you’ll still have fresh content to enjoy. This marks my very first time traveling to Asia, and the thrill is absolutely electric! It’s also been a significant period since I last ventured into a country with a major language barrier – which is why the incredibly helpful Google Translate app is now strategically installed on both of our phones! This journey represents an unparalleled opportunity to explore a truly massive international city, fully immerse ourselves in a completely different culture, and spend a full week experiencing profound new perspectives.
I have a strong conviction that this will be one of the most unique and unforgettable travel experiences of my entire life. Did you know that Tokyo alone is home to an astonishing 330,000 restaurants? To put that into perspective, New York City, a world-renowned culinary hub, has approximately 33,000. This staggering statistic underscores the incredible culinary diversity and depth we anticipate encountering. The sheer variety of flavors, ingredients, and dining experiences we expect to savor is mind-boggling, from traditional ramen shops to exquisite omakase sushi and vibrant street food. I genuinely cannot wait to share every detail, every taste, and every cultural discovery with all of you once we’re back home. For those of you who have previously traveled to Japan, we would be incredibly grateful for any additional recommendations you could send our way – whether it’s a hidden culinary gem, a must-visit temple, or a practical travel tip. Your insights would be invaluable in enhancing our adventure!

Weekly Highlights: From Sourdough Baking to Inspiring Discoveries
Beyond the bustling preparations for our grand Japanese adventure – which, admittedly, included an emergency 4 AM trip to the vet yesterday morning for our beloved Marley (he’s perfectly fine now, thankfully, just a minor scare!) – this past week has been a delightful mix of calm and creative pursuits. One of the most satisfying achievements for me was undoubtedly baking my very first sourdough loaf last weekend. It was a true labor of love, cultivated from my own active starter. After successfully completing Whole30, a girl absolutely deserves a celebratory treat, and what could be more rewarding than the aroma of freshly baked, homemade bread filling the kitchen? While my inaugural attempt definitely requires more practice to perfect – the crumb needs work, and the crust could be bolder – the sense of accomplishment and the rich, tangy flavor were incredibly gratifying. The entire process has been fascinating, and I’m already envisioning a future blog post dedicated to a comprehensive sourdough bread-making guide, once I’ve truly mastered the intricate art and science behind it.
In addition to our travel planning and baking endeavors, I’ve stumbled upon a few other captivating things that have truly resonated with me this week. Here’s a curated list of my current favorites and inspirations:
