The Weekly Mix - A Beautiful Plate

What a rollercoaster of a week it has been here in Chicago! We were absolutely spoiled with spring-like temperatures for five glorious days. It was truly incredible, prompting me to leave my coat at home and enjoy the unexpected warmth. Just when we thought we had bypassed winter’s last gasp, nature decided to play a classic Chicago joke on us, with a snow shower now expected tomorrow morning. This city certainly keeps you on your toes, reminding us that meteorological optimism is always best paired with a touch of skepticism!

Embarking on a Whole30 Journey and Kitchen Prep

Speaking of new beginnings, I’m officially kicking off my Whole30 journey this coming Monday! If you’ve been considering it or are looking for a reset, I’d love for you to join me. Drop a line if you’re in! This means my entire Sunday will be dedicated to intensive food prep, stocking up on compliant ingredients and getting everything organized for the week ahead. I have a very strong feeling that this particular kitchen appliance is going to be an absolute game-changer for simplifying the process and ensuring I stay on track. It’s all about making healthy eating as convenient and enjoyable as possible, especially during a strict program like Whole30.

On the culinary front, I’m already eyeing some Whole30-friendly recipes that promise to make the next 30 days delicious. This guacamole recipe, in particular, looks set to become my new best friend. I’m a firm believer that good guacamole can solve many problems, or at least make them more bearable! Are you a fan of chunky guacamole? Please tell me you are – there’s just something about those substantial bites that elevate the whole experience. I can already picture dipping fresh veggie sticks into a vibrant, chunky bowl of this goodness. It’s these small culinary joys that will make the Whole30 journey more sustainable and enjoyable.

And on the note of kitchen efficiency, I often forget about this brilliant food processor cleaning trick, but it’s absolutely perfect for tackling the remnants of sticky ingredients. It would work incredibly well for cleaning up after making this week’s batch of espresso almond cashew butter, for instance. A clean kitchen makes for a happy cook, and any hack that speeds up the post-cooking cleanup is a win in my book!

Delightful Dishes and Fashion Finds

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how incredibly adorable these French toast shooters are? They look absolutely amazing and would be an ideal addition to a big, celebratory brunch with friends. Imagine a spread where everyone brings a different dish – a potluck brunch, if you will – and these little shooters steal the show. Add some refreshing mimosas into the mix, and you’ve got yourself a perfect party. Seriously, let’s make this happen soon!

My cookie decorating aspirations have reached new heights after seeing these stunning cactus butter cookies. The intricate details and vibrant colors are truly inspiring. Who knew cookies could be such a work of art? Maybe one day I’ll achieve this level of cookie artistry, but for now, I’ll admire from afar!

On the fashion front, I’ve practically been living in these incredibly comfortable pants for the past few weeks. I’ve probably mentioned them before, but they genuinely are the world’s most comfortable pants – perfect for these transitional days where we get hints of spring mixed with a lingering winter briskness. They strike that ideal balance between comfort and style, making them a wardrobe staple for both lounging at home and running errands.

Boosting Productivity and Welcoming New Family

For those looking to optimize their workday, I found this article on the best way to spend your last hour at work absolutely brilliant. It provides an entire week’s worth of prompts and strategies to wrap up your day efficiently and set yourself up for success the following morning. It’s a game-changer for preventing that end-of-day scramble and ensuring you leave feeling accomplished and prepared.

The Weekly Mix - A Beautiful Plate

This past week was extra special and exciting because we officially welcomed my new (and second!) nephew, Oscar, into the family on Tuesday morning. He’s absolutely precious! Connor and I are already planning a quick trip down to New York City next weekend for a much-anticipated visit. I simply cannot wait for all the newborn snuggles and to shower him with love. My camera is definitely going to get a serious workout capturing every adorable moment of his first few days with us. Family is everything, and these moments are truly priceless.

Current Engagements: Listening, Watching, and Wondering

Currently listening to: I’m still thoroughly enjoying Pod Save America. Their insightful discussions and witty banter make for compelling listening, keeping me informed and entertained on my daily commutes.

Currently watching: My TV lineup remains strong with a few favorites. I’m deep into “The Walking Dead” – does anyone else wonder how this show will *ever* find a definitive ending? It feels like it could go on forever! Alongside that, “Billions” continues to deliver gripping drama and clever dialogue, and I’m eagerly catching up on “Homeland” (haven’t watched this week’s episode yet, no spoilers please!).

Currently wondering: This is my biggest Whole30 challenge right now – what on earth am I going to add to my coffee next week since dairy is a no-go?! I genuinely love the flavor and creaminess that dairy adds. Seriously, someone, please give me some fantastic ideas! I typically don’t love nut milks in my coffee, as they often don’t quite hit the mark for me, but I’ve heard frothed coconut milk can be surprisingly good. Any other suggestions for achieving that rich, satisfying coffee experience without dairy would be greatly appreciated!

Culinary Quest and Tech Innovations

Is this it? Is the blueberry muffin recipe I’ve been searching for my entire life finally here? The description sounds promising, and I’m always on the hunt for that perfect, bakery-style muffin. I might just have to put my Whole30 on pause for a moment of research after the 30 days are up!

In the realm of personal tech, this guide to finding the perfect headphones for every occasion was incredibly informative. With so many options out there, it’s helpful to have a resource that breaks down the best choices for different needs, ensuring you get the most out of your audio experience.

For my upcoming travel plans, I recently discovered this fantastic travel service called Journy. It essentially crafts custom itineraries, focusing on off-the-beaten-path experiences, which is exactly what I look for in an adventure. I’m seriously considering using it for one or two days of our Japan trip to uncover some hidden gems. The bonus? It’s super affordable, making unique travel planning accessible!

We’re just two short weeks away from Chicago’s iconic St. Patrick’s Day celebration, where the river famously runs neon green. It’s always such a vibrant and festive time in the city! If I wasn’t going to be strictly adhering to Whole30, I would absolutely be making a batch of these easy Irish soda bread scones. They look incredibly delicious and would be the perfect treat to celebrate the occasion. Alas, I’ll have to enjoy them vicariously this year!

Anticipating Entertainment and Navigating Life’s Changes

I haven’t been this genuinely excited to see a movie in a long, long time. It’s based on one of my absolute childhood favorites, and I’m anticipating all the nostalgic feels and emotional connections it’s bound to evoke. There’s something truly special about seeing a beloved story come to life on the big screen.

Since I’m a complete sucker for anything involving dogs (who isn’t?), I’m thinking about starting this particular book very soon. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it, and a heartwarming story featuring canine companions is always a winner in my library. Has anyone else read it and can vouch for its charm?

And speaking of charm, the most beautiful way to use seasonal blood oranges is simply captivating. The vibrant colors and unique flavor of blood oranges are a winter delight, and this recipe looks like an exquisite way to highlight their beauty and taste. It’s a stunning example of how seasonal ingredients can inspire true culinary artistry.

Finally, we’re officially contemplating a move to a different neighborhood in Chicago this summer. While we absolutely adore our current home in the West Loop, the thought of a new adventure is quite appealing. It’s hitting me that “this summer” is only about five months away, which means decisions and planning need to start soon. Full disclosure: I absolutely hate moving. Or rather, I don’t hate moving itself as much as I despise the packing process. The sheer volume of boxes and the organizational chaos just aren’t my favorite. But despite the packing ordeal, I still sort of want to embrace the fresh start and new experiences that come with a change of scenery. So, if anyone has brilliant moving or packing hacks, please send help!

And with that, I’m out. Dump all of your thoughts, advice, Whole30 coffee hacks, or moving tips below. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
